OSA and OSA-SF

Occupational Self Assessment (OSA) Version 2.2, 2006

Authors:
Kathi Baron, Gary Kielhofner, Anita Iyenger, Victoria Goldhammer, and Julie Wolenski

Reflecting the uniqueness of each client's values and needs, the OSA is a tool that facilitates client-centered therapy. The OSA self report and planning forms assist the client in establishing priorities for change and identifying goals for occupational therapy. The wide range of everyday activities, including handling responsibilities, managing finances, and relaxing, provides a client with the opportunity to identify and address their participation in important and meaningful occupations.

The OSA is designed to capture clients' perceptions of their own occupational competence on their occupational adaptation. Clients are provided with a list of everyday occupations, and assess their level of ability when participating in the occupation and their value for that occupation.

Similar to the OSA, the OSA – Short Form (OSA-SF) is a validated measure designed to assess one's perceived occupational competence and value, supporting the client by informing goal setting and treatment planning. Recognizing the hectic demands of occupational therapy practice, the OSA-SF was specifically tailored to increase clinical utility by decreasing the length of administration. Within 7-15 minutes, occupational therapists can give voice to their client's perception of their competence in valued occupations.
